HELLO FROM GARY LOCKWOOD
Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my "official" website. Most of you probably know me from Star Trek and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I'm grateful to have been a part of these projects that continue to find new generations of fans. On this site, you can also see a lot of the other work I've done over the years.
Some of you may not know I grew up in Newhall, California, the son of a successful rancher/carrot farmer. I attended UCLA on a football scholarship and left after 3 years, getting work as a Hollywood stunt cowboy. In my first film role, Tall Story, I worked with Jane Fonda and Anthony Perkins, as a Russian basketball player. Jane and I worked together again on Broadway in the play There Was a Little Girl. It was a pretty short run, but a great experience working with director Joshua Logan.
I've been fortunate over the years, to have been able to cross over pretty easily between film and television. Some early films in my career include Splendor in the Grass with Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty, The Magic Sword with Basil Rathbone, 2 films with my friend Elvis Presley, Model Shop with Anouk Aimee, and R.P.M. with Anthony Quinn and Ann Margret. Television show appearances include The Lieutenant, Perry Mason, Gunsmoke, Night Gallery, Mission: Impossible, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, Simon & Simon, and Murder, She Wrote . When Gene Roddenberry cast me to star in The Lieutenant, it led to the role of “Lt. Commander Gary Mitchell” in the Star Trek pilot “Where No Man Has Gone Before”. Not long after completing the pilot, Stanley Kubrick hired me to play "Frank Poole" in 2001: A Space Odyssey, an experience which forever changed my life.
I continue to work on projects that interest me. I enjoy speaking with audiences of all ages about my adventures as a "cowboy surfer dude" in Hollywood, and the unparalleled genius of Stanley Kubrick.
FYI, upcoming appearances are posted on the Contact Info/Links page.
Thanks for stopping by!
